A Heartwarming Detail: The Waleses’ Subtle On-Screen Tribute to Prince George That Melted Fans’ Hearts

Prince William and Princess Kate made a special callback to a milestone moment with Prince George.

In honor of the Prince and Princess of Wales’ latest initiative the Big Butterfly Count, the royal duo shared a video of the insect fluttering around a field as they called on the support of their followers.

“From now until 10th August, join thousands across the UK in spotting and recording butterflies to help protect these vital pollinators,” the July 18 post shared across their social media accounts read. “It only takes 15 minutes to do in any green space from your local park, garden or balcony! Go to @savebutterflies to find out more!”

And while George, 10, wasn’t present in the video, butterflies have a special connection to the young royal as they were the theme of one of his early royal outings.

In July 2014—three months after he marked his first public engagement—William and Kate’s eldest joined them at the Sensational Butterflies exhibition at the Natural History Museum in London.

In pics captured by royal photographer John Stillwell at the time, little George was expressive as he was seen chasing butterflies while they fluttered around him and bravely reaching out to touch the insects. Days later, pictures from the family outing were used to mark George’s first birthday on July 22.

William and Kate—who are also parents of kids Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7—were recently joined by their oldest kids during a special engagement. Ahead of George’s 12th birthday, he and Charlotte accompanied their parents to the gentlemen’s singles final at Wimbledon July 13.

For his part, George coordinated with his father in a smart dark blue suit. As for Charlotte, she was the perfect complement to Kate in a white dress with navy blue accents as they sat beside each other during the match and beat the heat with matching fans.

And while little Louis wasn’t there, his big brother and sister made sure they brought him a special gift from Wimbledon. Following the match, Charlotte and George joined their parents as they met Jannik Sinner who defeated Carlos Alcaraz.

Charlotte presented the athlete with three tennis balls for her and her siblings. As Jannik, 23, signed them, Kate told him, “Thank you so much, that’s really kind,” before adding, “We brought one for their brother as well.”

William then quipped, “Louis would be very upset otherwise.”
